ATTENTION STANDARDBRED BREEDERS & OWNERS
 
Many breeders are looking to breed their mares in slots enriched Indiana and Pennsylnania.  Both offer very enticing rewards and incentives for horses bred and foaled in those states.  Here are a few quick facts that may be unclear to you and that you may want to take into consideration when deciding where to breed and/or keep your mare.  You can breed out of state and keep your mare in Ohio and still be eligible for many incentives offered.  Ashberry Acres can be your mare care station in Ohio.   
 
Ohio Sire Stakes
Eligible for any foal from the mating of a mare and an Ohio registered and resident stallion
 

1. OHIO SIRES STAKES: Approximately $2,500,000 in purses with estimated $75,000 championships for 2- & 3-year-old colts and fillies

 

2. OHIO STATE FAIR RACES AT SCIOTO DOWNS: $625,000 in purses for 2- & 3-year-old colts and fillies at both gaits. 

 

3. OHIO BREEDERS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE DELAWARE COUNTY FAIR: $500,000 in purses for 2- & 3-year-old colts and fillies at both gaits during Little Brown Jug week.

 

4. OHIO FAIRS: $4,000,000 in purses for 2- & 3-year-olds at both gaits at over 70 county and independent fairs, conducted by seven different fair circuits. Culminates in season ending series for circuit leaders at Northfield Park (Night of Champions) and Raceway Park (Champion of Champion races).

 

5. SCARLET & GRAY STAKES AT NORTHFIELD PARK: $200,000 in purses for Ohio-sired 4-year-olds and up, divided by sex and gait.

Pennsylvania Breed Development Fund

-Pennsylvania Bred:  A foal whose dam conceived via a Pennsylvania stallion but did not reside in Pennsylvania for 180 contiguous days on either side of foaling.

 

-Pennsylvania Sired and Bred:  A foal whose dam conceived via a Pennsylvania stallion, was born in Pennsylvania, and whose mother (recipient mare if an embryo transfer) resided in Pennsylvania for any 180 contiguous days on either side of foaling. (Emergencies and exceptions, such as illness, orphan foal, etc. will be dealt with by the Commission on a case-to-case basis).

Indiana Breed Development

-Indiana Sired (IS):  A foal sired by a stallion standing in Indiana and registered with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission the year the foal was conceived.

· The mare of an Indiana Sired (IS) foal does not have to reside in the state

  and can be bred by shipped semen.

· An IS foal does not have to be foaled in the state of Indiana.

· An IS foal does not have to be Indiana owned.

 

-Indiana Bred (IB): A foal from a mare which resides in the state continuously from June 1st of the breeding year through time of foaling and is properly registered with the IHRC.

· An IB foal may be sired by a Standardbred stallion standing outside of Indiana.

· An IB foal does not have to be Indiana owned.

 

-Indiana Sired and Bred(ISB): A foal sired by a registered Indiana stallion and from a mare which resides in the state continuously from June 1st of the breeding year through time of foaling and is properly registered with the IHRC.

· An ISB foal must be sired by a registered stallion and foaled in the state of Indiana.

· An ISB foal does not have to be Indiana owned.

 Kentucky Standardbred Development Fund

-Foal shall be the product of the mating of a mare with a Kentucky registered and resident stallion

-A horse that does not start in at least one (1) of the preliminary legs scheduled shall not be eligible for the final.

     - A horse that enters a preliminary leg that does not fill and is not raced shall receive credit toward fulfilling the minimum starting requirements

     -A horse that has been scratched from an event that is raced shall not receive credit toward meeting the starting requirements  

-After payment of the nomination fee, foals shall remain eligible for events each year by making the required sustaining and declaration payments for that year.

-Yearlings shall be nominated by May 15 of their yearling year
